Dr Andrew Mimnagh
GP, Liverpool
Andrew Mimnagh has been a Principle in General Practice since 1992. He lives in Crosby with his wife and three daughters. He is Chairman of Sefton Local Medical Committee, having been a member for the past 9 years, the last six as Vice chair. His interest in cardiovascular medicine started during an intercalated honours year in Human Physiology and extended into General Practice after an extended period of hospital practice including 3 years duty on acute take for a coronary care unit. As a front line performer in the ISIS 3 trial he observed at first hand the way clinical advances can impact on established practice. He somewhat doggedly bucks the current trend in General Practice, specifically denying any "Special Interest". He maintains that broad family medicine practice is sufficiently interesting in its own right. He works as a full time practitioner in a three partner GMS Practice plus two sessions for his local out of hours provider. He has spoken and published on an eclectic range of medical issues. His unifying theme in his presentations being that service delivery is handicapped, not by lack of in depth knowledge, but by boredom. He believes that the most important issue to delivery of quality care is diligence. His mantra in practice is to be found as a truism in many areas of life "do the basics well and repeatedly".
