Dr Jonathan Morrell

Dr Jonathan Morrell has been a GP for 28 years and is now based in Hastings where he is also a hospital practitioner in cardiology. He was a founding member of both HEART UK and the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society and is also a member of the British Cardiac Society. He is primary care editor of ‘Drugs in Context’ and ‘Drugs in Context - Clinical Trials’ and is an editorial board member, referee and contributor to a range of other medical journals. He is the author of ten books, mostly on the prevention of heart disease including the recently published ‘Lipids - Your Questions Answered’, ‘Best Medicine Simple Guide to Cholesterol’ and ‘Dyslipidaemia in Clinical Practice’. ‘Visceral Adiposity’ is due to be published at the end of the year. Dr Morrell’s current research interests include lead roles for the European Society of Cardiology EUROACTION project, the REACH Registry, the IDEA and INSPIRE-ME studies and ASPIRE 2.

Dr Morrell has a long-standing interest in cardiovascular disease prevention, particularly risk assessment and individual risk factor modification: "I believe applying the same criteria and standards to patients with PAD as the contract applies to patients with other atherosclerotic manifestations would result in the prevention of a significant number of heart attacks and strokes for patients who are hitherto relatively neglected."
